21 Nov ROBOT SECURITY GUARDS FOR THE FUTURE?

Last week, Microsoft’s Silicon Valley campus took steps in revamping their security, but in a more unconventional and interesting way. The campus was being policed by five 300-pound robots, called the K5. Each were equipped with security features like; cameras, sensors, artificial intelligence, alarms. And for navigation purposes, it also has a GPS system.

The creators of K5, Knightscope, built it with the approach of giving it a commanding (standing at 5 foot tall) and friendly presence If you step in front of the K5, or otherwise interfere with it, it will gently warn you with some chimes — but if you don’t move, an “ear-piercing alarm” is triggered. Who knows, with a few modifications the friendly K5 just might be able to warn humans of impending danger with catch phrases like “Danger Will Robinson.”
